Branch News - 2012
19/01/12 - Message from the Branch President
I, along with my wife, Sheila, have
taken on the task of Branch correspondent for the quarterly publication
of the RSPBA “The Pipe Band” magazine. In order to be able to do
this, I shall be contacting all Branch bands to find out any snippet of
interesting news e.g. events you have taken part in, competition
results, change of uniform, changes in personnel etc. With your
permission, these snippets will also be put on the Branch web site.
The Branch officials would like to know
about any help or advice that you feel would help or improve your band
performance, so I shall be asking for your thoughts on that as well.
I hope to see you all at this year’s
contests.

Dixie, George and Hugh for adjudicating; Lynda for her support on the
top floor and the ‘management team’ for all their hard work.
Also a special mention for Kathy
McGinn who came and handed out the trophies.
I would like to say a big thank you to all
those who pitched in / were coerced and helped, moving chairs and
tables, selling programmes and raffle tickets and running errands for
me. I really do appreciate your support.

Prize giving will be at 1600 hrs in the Main Hall
Please note that there will be an extraordinary committee meeting held
at 1215hrs in the main hall.
The meeting at lunchtime is to pass (hopefully) the branch accounts for
the year ending September 2009.
One representative from each band is encouraged to attend and vote plus
any committee members. Observers are welcome too!
Solo piping will be taking place from 10.00 hrs - please use the time
before lunch - when the grade 4 MSR contest is running - we need to
close competing in time for the prize giving at 16.00 hrs.
Solo drumming and drum salute competing will be held in the Main Hall
after the meeting at lunch time.
18/04/10 - Branch Mini-Band Contest, Stotfold
A great day was had at the Branch Mini Band Contest today.
Congratulations to the prize winners and a big thanks to all the bands
that took part. Also our thanks go to our adjudicators for the day, Tony
Sloane, George Reid and Hugh Jamieson.

17/04/10 - Mrs Fiona J Stirling
Branch Members are advised that Fiona Stirling
tendered her resignation as Honorary Treasurer of the Branch at its
meeting on Sunday, 11 April.
As members will recall, Fiona, who up until November
2008 was Honorary Secretary and Treasurer of the Branch, relinquished
her secretarial responsibilities with a view to retiring fully at some
time in the future. In light of the increased levels of financial
reporting now required within RSPBA, Fiona decided to relinquish her
responsibilities as treasurer. Fiona’s resignation was graciously
accepted particularly in view of her substantial contribution to the
Branch over some 18 years and the Branch membership wish her well for
the future.

17/05/09 - The 100 Pipers Scottish Pipe Band Championships 2009,
Dumbarton
The Branch was represented by the Welsh Piping Society and the two bands
from the University of Bedfordshire at the first major contest of the
year on Saturday 16th May.
The Grade Four Band of the University of Bedfordshire, competing in the
Grade 4A contest qualified for the final in first place in their heat.
They were later placed a creditable fifth place in the final, well done
to them.
The University of Bedfordshire Grade Two band were placed a fantastic
second in their contest, very well done indeed and our congratulations
go to them.
